Review of The Maltese Falcon (1941) by José S — 21 Aug 2011
Hadn't seen this film since high school-- certainly is a forerunner of the kinds of crime drama that now dominate TV, especially CBS. Sam Spade manages to be hero and anti-hero at the same time, while Mary Astor's Brigid may be one of the most complicated female characters I have seen in the 40s and 50s films I have watched.
The ending scene is worth the whole movie, by itself.
