Review of The Maltese Falcon (1941) by Ben D — 27 Feb 2015
I've wanted to see this movie for ages and ages. I had heard nothing but praise for this film and I'm glad to say that it not only met my expectations, it blew them out of the water. This is a tightly crafted crime thriller with little flaws.
The film gives us one of my favorite kind of characters; a quick talking, smart, and witty guy who only works for himself. Then they put that character into a twisty, turny, and engaging plot that keeps the viewer hooked and intrigued throughout the entire film.
With those two elements put together, you are left with this incredible piece of cinema. Anyone who enjoys mystery films that involve lots of deception will love this movie. Oh, and I am extremely grateful that when everything comes to light, it actually makes sense.
I'm tired of getting a explanation, only to have it follow no logic. Thankfully that didn't happen here. I had no real issues with this film and cannot recommend it enough.
