Although it too often dips into sentimentality and is a little too obvious in its criticism of 1950s communist witch hunts, "The Majestic" succeeds due to strong performances by Jim Carrey, Martin Landau, and James Whitmore, and by demonstrating a powerful love of cinema as a whole.
