Review of The Magnificent Seven (2016) by Blake L — 01 Jan 2017
Waste of a talented cast and recognized property. This film suffers from an identity disorder as it couldn't decide whether it wanted to be a gritty modern Western (like the superior Hell or High Water), an adventure flick for adults, or a Disney-esque crowd pleaser.
The jarring dissonance of a score obviously done by two composers (partly done by the late James Horner) is a microcosm for the tone of the film as whole.
