Review of The Magnificent Butcher (1979) by John S — 10 Jul 2012
Magnificent Butcher probably has the worst case of Classic Kung Fu Cheesiness ever. It's nearly intolerable and I contemplated fast forwarding the film NUMEROUS times. Fortunately, the fights scenes are fantastically awesome.
It's always a joy to see Sammo Hung's surprisingly athletic ability, and it's even better to see it combine with Yuen Woo Ping's martial arts genius. Unfortunately it barely makes up for the unbelievably unfunnily dated and bad acting, dialogue, and writing.
Unless you actually enjoy this type of humor (there are many that do apparently) I'd recommend just watching the fight scenes. Watching the rest of the film is like a chore.
