Review of The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) by Anthony A — 08 Oct 2007
It's so sad what they did to this movie. After seeing Welles's version, RKO edited out almost AN HOUR of the film, added cheesy close-ups, reshot certain scenes and tacked on the most unlikely and illogical happy ending that any movie has ever had.
The amazing thing is that Welles's brilliance still shines through in parts, and it actually a compelling enough movie up until the end, which reportedly brought Welles to tears when he finally saw the movie decades later.
