I liked the movie. Everything is so melodramatic and Tim Holt is such an annoying little shit. I've heard how the studio sent Orson Welles to Brazil to make a documentary and while he was away, re-cut the film and tacked on a happy ending, stating that after Pearl Harbour, people didn't want to see a depressing movie.
Apparently the end was supposed to be very sombre showing the Amberson mansion in decay.
