Review of The Lovely Bones (2009) by Chris B — 25 Jul 2016
Ok, we all know what a great director Peter Jackson is from the LOTR trilogy. But he also gave us the bloated snore-fest remake of 'King Kong' This movie ranks alongside the latter rather than LOTR.
Weisz and Wahlberg are drippy non-entities as the parents who could have been replaced by damp dish cloths. In fact, Wahlberg is so unconvincing as the grieving father being driven mad by his search for Susie's killer that he manages to make his performance in 'The Happening'' look oscar-worthy! Peter Jackson is great at bringing fantasy worlds to life, so it is a real surprise that the afterlife sequences are so dire.
The climactic afterlife scene where Susie meets her murderer's other victims in preparation to 'cross over' to heaven is particularly terrible. A complete disappointment.
