Review of The Love Guru (2008) by Chris M — 20 Apr 2010
Myers doesn't even come CLOSE to capturing the fun he achieved in the Austin Powers movies. The sense of humor often feels the same, but it just doesn't work... probably because what it's lacking is a satirical edge.
Austin Powers was like a bumbling James Bond, a marvelous send-up of the "international spy" movie genre. The Love Guru (in spite of doing the whole Bollywood production number thing), is missing the critical touchstone of a familiar cinematic framework on which Myers can hang his warped sense of humor.
