Review of The Lost Weekend (1945) by Giffy G — 03 Jan 2008
From my standpoint as a 21st century viewer jaded to the shock-value of alcoholism, the movie did seem a bit tame. However, I loved the storytelling devices: the story kept looping back around itself--flashbacks, foreshadowing, bookending.
.. I really couldn't put the story into a linear timeline without sitting down and really thinking about it. The scene with the mouse and the bat thoroughly disturbed me, and the acting was competent, yet hardly stellar.
Gotta love Billy Wilder.
