Review of The Lost Weekend (1945) by Aren B — 03 Jul 2008
Wilder in a minor but serious key. If you asked me to name his ten best films this one wouldn't even crack the list. However, its hardly a wash, Wilder doesn't give any absolute answers and while nowhere near as dark an examination of addiction as, say, Requiem for a Dream, the film provides a solid balance between clever highs and brutal lows.
The usually bland Milland gives a pretty great performance too.
