Review of The Lost Weekend (1945) by Robert B — 06 Feb 2007
The Lost Weekend is amazing because it explores one of the deepest issues that has plagued man for generations. The issue of alcoholism is a serious one and it is not going away anytime soon. The fact that Ray Milland is not a drinker makes it all the more amazing.
He was one of the few in Hollywood that did not drink, just kidding, but his performance at Don Birnam is the role or a life time. Jane Wyman is the pillar of strength that Don needs, unfortunately, he realizes this almost too late.
The alcoholic ward at the detox center is beyond scary and points the real problem of drinking, the visions and ideas that one gets. That is the scary truth.
