Review of The Lost City of Z (2017) by David O — 27 Mar 2017
If you haven't heard of this lost City there is good reason why. Here we have a very hollow movie that uses a small story as a base to explore other themes but unfortunately simply doesn't explore them well or at all.
Lost City of Z uses a mask of serious, natural and poetic scenes and dialgue to cover up its complete lack of purpose and depth. Our lead character is played by Charlie Hunnam in a very one toned manner and has very little to work with in the script.
When there are opportunities they are either wasted or simply lost on the audience which persists to fall down to the supporting cast also, with only Robert Pattinson's character seeming to work for the narrative of the story.
While the story keeps you engaged through its long run time, ultimately audiences will leave scratching their heads, asking what was the point?
