Gray's formalism is as impeccable as ever and, when unleashed, his sense of wonder is captivating, but the biographical facts start to heavily undermine the tone and rhytm in the second half. Also, as far as contemporary period films about amazonian expeditions recontextualizing colonialism go, Ciro Guerra did it way better.
