Review of The Lost City of Z (2017) by Debbie T — 09 Jun 2017
Dense, thoughtful and dramatic. A love story as well as an adventure story, with realistic action that pulled me into the set profoundly. I have gotten immune to the roller coaster rides of modern film-making, leaving theatres rather nauseated and annoyed and unlike those over the top unrealistic mechanical robotic action overloads, this was as close to real life human heroism and frailty as it gets today.
The recreation of a cinematic theme kept close to the historical period was impressive, including the mannerisms and speach patterns of an early 20th Century couple making a place for themselves in respectable British society, something hard to understand in the first place but impossibly hard to recreate with the amount of realism and touching emption that this film pulls off! Loved it, would like to see more about the discoveries and the contributions that the Amazonian cultures provided to the Western World.
