Review of The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond (2008) by Barbara C — 15 Sep 2010
Two pieces of sandpaper rubbing together but in a good and purposeful way. The story and the language were the best parts with the actors playing the scenes well. The Tennessee Williams play builds tension and keeps it at half-mast.
Big payoffs to that tension don't exist and I loved that - consider current scripts with quick build ups, let downs, easy answers. If you love plays, this is a great movie to watch. Not sure I've ever seen Chris Evans in a movie before but he was great.
Howard was very good but a little self-conscious throughout which in a way added to the grit so it is hard to say if that is a good thing or a bad thing. The film drew me in, no doubt.
