Review of The Lords of Salem (2013) by Breeyon B — 27 Apr 2013
I loved the direction Rob Zombie took with this film and how dark and mysterious he made it. I hope people know that this was meant to be more of a psychological thriller than a horror film. I for one understood what Rob was doing in this film and how smart he played it, making the film that much more enjoyable.
It was very sensible as well as very creative. It kind of got a tad weird toward the end, but the way the film went in direction, it almost fit really well. this movie was a slow burner, and most people will not respect that, let alone have the attention span for it, but if you stick with it, appreciate it, and have an open mind, you will be rewarded.
It feels very much like a Roman Polanski film with a little but more vision and creativity that would come from a person whose lives revolve around music videos. It got a Rosemary's Baby vibe throughout the film and I loved it for it.
Rob is definitely showing his range as a filmmaker, creativity, and artistic vision and writing with this newest film and he maintains my respect for it. Now I do agree with most of the film critics when I say that I wish there were more scares in the film, but I love its unrelenting creepy and dark tones throughout.
People also need range when it comes to film so they can appreciate what Rob Zombie has done while making this film, even if they did not like it.
