Review of The Lords of Salem (2013) by Bridie C — 10 Jun 2013
As a fan of both House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects, I was very excited to see this film. Although I've never really been a huge fan of Sheri Moon Zombie's acting, I was interested to see how she would carry a leading role.
I love things relating to the Salem Witch Trials. Needless to say, I had a lot of high hopes for this movie. They all, however, were completely let down. The story was okay... except the fact that there wasn't much payoff at the end.
Some of the acting was great... not the lead's, of course. The thing that really got to me was the weird, uncomfortable feeling I got towards the end of the movie during the odd trance like shots.
There was a shot of priests masturbating which really made me feel uneasy. Maybe the sense of witchcraft in this film was a little "too real" for me. Whatever the case may be, the next time I'm in the mood for a Rob Zombie flick, this movie won't even be an option.
