Review of The Lords of Salem (2013) by Michael L — 28 Oct 2013
Radio DJ Sheri Moon is handed a vinyl record from an unseen clan known only as The Lords. Of course, upon playing it, all hell is unleashed, as evil witches from back in the day have unfinished business with her families bloodline.
Incoherent, at times poorly edited and just out right bizarre, yet this is perhaps writer/director Rob Zombie's most intriguing film yet (though certainly not his best). There is some excellent use of the camera here, and many nods to Kubricks The Shining, and films from the 70s, such as Rosemarys Baby and Blood on Satans Claw.
There are also some great performances, particularly from Meg Foster, who is as sinister as ever. Despite improving on his dialogue from previous films, especially his pretty dour Halloween scripts, its now just a case of Zombie putting more thought in to making sure his scripts make sense.
