Review of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) by Theo W — 03 Jan 2016
They say that the second film of a trilogy is typically the best, and The Two Towers is no exception.
Slowly taking on a darker tone as the enemy advances, this sequel raises the stakes and then pays off with the message of hope and coming together to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds.
And that's nothing to say about Andy Serkis's groundbreaking portrayal of the complicated and troubled Gollum. The journey with Frodo, Sam, and the creepy beast could have easily been the lowest and most boring point of the film, but Jackson instead gives us a much-needed yet equally-captivating conflict.
With all the promise of The Fellowship of the Ring, hopes were high for part 2 of the Lord of the Rings epoch. But just like Helms Deep, The Two Towers overcame all odds and exceeded expectations.
