My favorite of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring is exciting and has an epic feel to it. You feel that the hobbits are against a very powerful and mysterious force, which is the case.
We get to see the beginning of the effects of the ring on Frodo, as he slowly becomes enveloped by its power. The next two installments have pacing issues, but this one is never boring nor too quick.
