Review of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) by Richard D — 23 Aug 2018
This film is as close as I come to liking this trilogy. It lacks the giant battles between video game sprites that makes large sections of the latter 2 films feel like you're watching someone play a real time strategy game.
This one feels more populated by humans. That said, I really dislike the tone and aesthetics of these films. Jackson seems to think he's adapting great literature and not good pulp. The film has a stodgy style to it that starts getting on my nerves by the time I've seen the 40th shot panning across little people running across panoramic vistas.
It's a decent film, but I'd rather be watching "Conquest".
