The extended cuts of The Lord of The Ring films are a lot longer, but as a fan who's read the books this offers a much more complete story. While many may scoff at a movie that is 3 hours and 48 minutes long.
I myself, find the film enthralling and after a bit it doesn't feel like such a long film. The movie itself features some really great performances, wonderful cinematography and a great theme about friendship and honor.
While this first movie is a lot more light on action it is a great set up to the other two films. Highly recommended!
