I loved the books as a kid, and I totally love the film version. There are few flaws in this film - maybe the special effects seem a little washed out in the large shots, but otherwise masterfully done.
Well acted, true to the material (for the most part), and I even enjoyed the extended cut as well. For someone not versed in Tolkien and dwarves and elves, I could see this movie dragging, but for me it was like watching the book unfurl in front of me.
