Review of The Lord of the Rings (1978) by James M — 07 Jan 2013
Review update:
It's a tremendous shame that the producers ran out of money before this animated film was completed. It doesn't really have an ending, just a cliffhanger for a sequel which never came.
There was a lot of promise here though and before Peter Jackson achieved the impossible, this was classed as a marvel and a milestone in modern animation techniques and rotoscoping at the time of it's release, now it's incredibly dated and some of the techniques look rather daft. It's probably worth watching for the historical value but it really proves what an amazing job Peter Jackson done on the live action trilogy.
