Review of The Look of Love (2013) by Roman R — 26 Aug 2013
Technically impressive and generally well acted but bland and uninvolving. You'd think a biopic of the man who progressed from nude revue shows to a multi-million pound erotic empire would have more to say than this.
Characters appear, disappear and reappear over the decades in which the story unfolds, but few make any real impression. There are elements of Citizen Kane with Raymond's misguided attempts to guide his untalented daughter to undeserved success, but none of it hangs together cohesively.
A disappointment following the splendid collaborations Coogan and Winterbottom have brought us in the past.
