Review of The Longest Day (1962) by Kelly N — 27 May 2008
This is an exceptional movie for a number of reasons. It starred many German, British, French and American celebrities. Many American and British actors in the film had actually served in World War II.
It covers effectively and fairly accurately the day the Allies began kicking Hitler's heiney on the shores of Normandy. German and French sequences are dubbed; and Nazi and French resistance characters are just as fully fleshed out as the Allied characters; there are no "stars," although it's clear who the "good guys" are.
The actual film was released in 1962, a very good year.
