Review of The Long Goodbye (1973) by Kyle O — 20 Jul 2009
A solid noir-tribute from the 70s (a time not often remembered for its noir). Elliot Gould is obscure now, but he slips well into the role of Philip Marlowe, a smart-ass with intuition about the death of a friend and his wife.
A great script, directed by the late great Robert Altman, a director who normally does character stories revolving around multiple characters and plotlines. He departs fashionably and creates a smart little gem from the greatest era in American film.
Plus, Sterling Hayden and the Governor of Californa to boot!
