Review of The Long Good Friday (1980) by Willem W — 16 Aug 2007
The grand-daddy of Guy Ritchie's ouvre. A rollicking character study rooted by a crackerjack performance by Bob Hoskins, who, when he wants to be, is simply the scariest motherfucker in the world. Hellen Mirren dominates the frame whenever her silky presence saunters into a scene.
Demystifies the gangster genre while providing all the requisite thrills.
