Review of The Long Good Friday (1980) by Gabriel K — 18 Aug 2007
The best British gangster film, a world away from your public-schoolboy-desperately-wants-to-be-a-Mockney-wideboy Guy Ritchies. Shatters the myth those films propagate that being a gangster is just a bit of a laugh really, and that they're the lords of this manor so if you don't watch yourself you're gonna get a right kicking you facking cant.
Great theme tune, great performances and one of the best endings in cinema history. There's a Hollywood remake on the way apparently. Are you as surprised as me? Proves Harold Shand's point about 'bit more than an 'ot dog' perfectly.
