Review of The Long Good Friday (1980) by Chris D — 08 Feb 2008
This film convinced me that Bob Hoskins is one of Britains greats. Seeing him in films like Hook growing up didn't really convince me he was anything more than a comic bit parter.
In this, he is the boss of a criminal gang who, in spite of all his power and graces, has not ever advanced from the basic thug he was when he started out.
This film exposes the thuggery and violence behind organised crime and both Hoskins and Helen Mirren are excellent.
