Review of The Lobster (2015) by Joseph G — 31 Aug 2016
It has its moments but there are elements that are hard to accept. For one, in a scenario in which people have a time limit to find a mate before being transformed into an animal, I would expect people to be networking and schmoozing much more vigorously than they do in this movie.
Secondly I just don't see the societal expectations for singledom to be as oppressive or normative as for couples, as this movie presents. Thirdly, the movie places a huge emphasis on the absurdity of expecting people to be compatible couples because of superficial similarities; I wasn't aware that this was even really such an issue.
