Review of The Lobster (2015) by Tim A — 14 Jun 2016
Not a comedy and not an easy watch. It's a romantic No Country for Old Men, and about as emotionally grueling. Audience repeatedly covered their eyes at the screening I attended, and four people walked out at the one hour mark.
Disregard all the marketing or trailers you may have seen, and especially do not take John C. Reilly's role as an indication of what is to come -- he is every bit as tragic here as he was in Magnolia.
My sense of betrayal was pretty profound throughout, making it impossible for me to say how I would have reacted if I hadn't felt locked in a room with a mad man throughout.
Beautifully shot, in much the same way that Hieronymous Bosch's work is beautifully painted.
