Review of The Lobster (2015) by Anthony S — 12 Aug 2016
Bizarre dark comedy laden with social commentary on relationships. The offbeat humor and absurdist storytelling are not for everyone, but if you like the quirkiness of Wes Anderson or the feel of a Coen Bros. film you'll appreciate its wit.
The film very intelligently explores the psychology behind choosing a partner, the blind untruthfulness of courtship, how society views and treats single people vs. couples, societal pressure and what it leads to, and of course - love.
Great acting, writing, and imagery. Loses a little steam in the third act but has an ending worth waiting for. Very smart and very original.
