Review of The Lobster (2015) by Anthony K — 14 Sep 2016
There's too much to say about The Lobster from an analytical standpoint. Really, it's fabulous. I had heard that it was by and large a satire, but not of what. And that bears true here. I suppose I would say it's bodily passion vs.
societal composure - and all of the problems the clash entails. The 'liberated', asexual frenchwoman; the poetic but misguided English lovers; the desperate, duplicitous rank and file normal folk.
I only knock half a star off because I think it will test the patience of most American viewers. But for those who find the tone rapturous from the 1st act will be rewarded for sticking with.
