Review of The Lobster (2015) by Caleb E — 08 Dec 2016
The Lobster is a weird movie, and by that I do not mean that it is the good kind of weird. It was rather awkward and I know that was the intention of the plot but still the actors and the writing took the intention and went a few miles past the goal point.
It starts rather well giving us the setting of the "Hotel" where our main character, played by Collin Farrell, will be staying but after that the film slowly starts to hit a lull, with some odd modernity (or at least what could pass as such in the world of The Lobster.
) But what I will give the film is that I was able to relate in someway to the main character who tries too hard to relate to his chosen partner only to realize that he is way over his head. But even at the point where the film is supposed to pick up around the halfway point when he escapes the Hotel but even then the movie fails to draw me in, at this point it just felt like a dystropyian movie by way of a badly written Wes Anderson Script.
Even the ending was kind of off, it never gave us a full conclusion to what I felt was an incomplete story that never really got going. As soon as it ended I was standing there when it ended shocked that there wasn't more to give.
I went into this movie really hoping to like it but was very disappointed.
