Review of The Living Daylights (1987) by Lyndon G — 25 Jun 2009
This movie probably isn't that good, but it's the Bond movie we had around the house as kids (my mother is Czech and this movie has scenes in Czechoslovakia). On the other hand it certainly isn't without intrigue and suspense.
In fact I rather like Timothy Dalton as James Bond, and I feel vindicated now that Daniel Craig has resurrected the moral grey area. This movie is fun and kitschy in a muted way and certainly less dingy than Licence to Kill (Dalton's other and inferior Bond entry), and in my opinion less glitzy and interchangeable than many of Pierce Brosnan's Bond movies (though I like him just fine as an actor), which detached almost to the point of parody from what a spy might actually do.
As far as I remember it, this one is remotely plausible. At least, that's what I figured as a kid ;).
