Review of The Lives of Others (2006) by Briain D — 31 Aug 2011
A tense and powerful drama, with a first class performance from Ulrich Muhe (RIP). I've read some criticism about the film not being true to reality but I don't agree. Muhe's character is a senior Stasi officer and so it's reasonable to assume he wouldn't be monitored by more senior figures again.
The ending to this film is also a memorable one- earlier in the film, Minister Hempf said "Menschen veraendern sich nie- People never change", but this statement is proven wrong at the end.
