Review of The Lives of Others (2006) by Nate P — 25 Sep 2010
One of the finest achievements in a foreign-language film from recent memory.
It's simply more emotional and rewarding for the film-goer to approach this.
Taking place in East Berlin, 1984, The Lives of Others shows us how life was like during the years before the Berlin Wall fell down. In East Berlin at the time, the police monitored its citizens about their daily lives. The movie centers in and starts out as a simple monitoring scheme into the lives of a couple, but turns into a thrilling cat-n-mouse game of the couple the police are spying on. it is oh-so fascinating to watch this foreign language German film, which happened to win the Academy Award for best Foreign Language film. Hands down one of the 5 best foreign language films I have ever seen.
