Review of The Lives of Others (2006) by Andrew W — 30 May 2010
A classic, psychological drama set in the cold war world of Stasi controlled East Germany. A playwright and his actress girl friend are put under state surveillance when a high up official takes a shine to the actress.
The leader of the surveillance team gradually rediscovers his humanity as the regime starts to crack.
Brilliantly acted, well paced and superbly written - a truly thought-provoking film.
