Review of The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning (2008) by Andrea G — 09 Sep 2008
I loved this movie for many reasons. I liked the Manatee thing Benjamin, he was funny and looked like some cartoon you'd see in Winnie the Pooh. He was so big...yet looked like he was filled with only air.
I liked to get to know Ariel's sisters because in the first one you barely see them. I thought Adella was funny with her boy crazy-ness. The songs weren't so great...but at least there was some funny moments.
What REALLY upset me though was how Ariel's mom was BARELY in the movie...and the way she died made me mad. Queen Athena tried to grab the music box that King Triton gave her and got squished by a pirate ship.
..she SHOULD have died saving one of her kids because dying for a materialistic object is just ...infuriating to me. It made me upset that the manatee was giving the villainess a manicure and had her dunk her nails in liquid that normally would never stay in the bowl and how it wasn't explained why merpeople were banned from going to the surface (which is what happens in the beginning).
