I am all for retelling and re imaginings of stories like this. After all what is the 1989 The Little Mermaid but a retelling? However, this one was poorly done. The plot is haphazard and sloppy with incomplete thoughts.

They wrapped almost everything up in half baked cliches and called it a movie. Also the fortune teller supposedly can read minds but does not know where the mermaids soul is kept or how to get to it; plus she has the ability to stop time, telekinesis, and can shoot some kind of beam out of her eyes? Why did she not break out the mermaid and the obvious Beast rip-off years ago? What about a handsome regular man and a child with asthma suddenly made this possible? I am really good at suspending my disbelief when watching movies but this thing just beats you in between the eyes with its issues until you can not ignore them and it makes it impossible to just enjoy the film.
