Review of The Little Mermaid (1989) by Mehki B — 05 Oct 2013
"The Little Mermaid 3D" I just saw this movie and praise the 3D conversion, which is FAR superior to the HACK job they did with "Finding Nemo". The Mermaid is better, more entertaining and just as moving as Nemo, which I also saw in 3D.
Let me say that Nemo's LACK of box office draw, is what killed Mermaid's chance for a 3D theatrical run. Bad 3D example, from Nemo, when 'Dad' was looking for 'Son' he swam out and instead of letting him "ACTUALLY SWIM OUT" as if he were looking in the audience for Nemo, Disney restrained the picture, because they think a scene like that is 'GIMMICKY'.
"So what" we want to feel like we got our money's worth, the result was that Nemo felt flat and I wondered why I spent extra for 3D that barely felt any closer than the half price 2D projection.
GREED is KILLING 3D, a decade ago a 3D movie cost a DOLLAR more, to cover the cost of the glasses, which at that time were designed for each movie"s theme. Now they charge HUNDREDS of percent more and the glasses are MASS produced, thus cheaper to make.
Who wants to spend that much more, when most of today's 3D movies are SUB-PAR? Greed is also killing or has killed the 3D TV market as well, $70, $80 or more for ONE (1) pair of glasses come on! I've watched movies on both active (w/ batteries) and passive TV's and the image was NOT $80 better, GREED.
Too bad, now many may never get to experience 3D at home. Anyway back to the movie, revisit "The Little Mermaid 3D" and feel like a kid again, but see it in 3D, if you get the opportunity, they did a marvelous conversion.
P.S. invest in a 3D TV, they are cheap now and enhance movies greatly. It is a shame they had to get SO Greedy, because I would love to see "Wall*E" in 3D and "The Incredibles" and "Aladdin".
