The Lion King is probably the most outright entertaining film of the Renaissance, and for that matter, all of Disney's history. But it is much more than just entertainment, it is a Shakespearean tale of a lost boy finding his way in this connected, yet divided world.

The film is also the most emotionally palpable film of the Renaissance, which is another reason why this is the highest grossing traditionally animated film of all time. It is a film that is dear to me, and also great, because there are images from it that have remained with me from my childhood.

The animation is restrained, yet beautifully renders the African flatlands until the musical sequences, and then the animation becomes quick moving, bright, and iventive. However, the best parts of this film come from the witty and deep dialogue, the characters, and the songs.

The songs aren't the most well written of all the Renaissance films, but they are the most catchy and beautifully composed. And characters like Mufasa, Simba, Timon, Pumba, and Scar, who is one of the greatest Disney villains ever, make this film even more enjoyable.

Also, I think this film may have a sub-theme to go along with its main theme of finding your place in this world, it is also a study of how different philosophies mingle in a connected world. In conclusion, I believe The Lion King is a top ten Disney film, and the 4th best film of the Renaissance behind Aladdin at 3.

But I don't think I need to recommend it to anyone, because everyone has seen The Lion King.
