Review of The Lion in Winter (1968) by Ryan Y — 28 Apr 2006
I just saw this movie again today, and I have to say that it was better than ever. There is a certain power in the script that undoubtably comes from its start in the theatre, and that, coupled with the performance, is what gives this movie its punch.
This is, after all, a film more concerned with the dramatic than the visual, and immense pleasure can be drawn from watching masterful actors like Hopkins, O'Toole, and Hepburn work their magic. It also happens to be one of the more amusing films I have seen, thanks to Hepburn's delightful and piercing wit.
She certainly earned her Oscar for this role.
