Review of The Lion in Winter (1968) by Tim C — 29 Oct 2009
In a redefining year, Katharine Hepburn leads a strong cast of actors in a movie that redefined her stature in Hollywood as an acting powerhouse as Eleanor Of Aquitaine. She deserves her Best Actress Oscar for the year of 1968, tying equally with Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl.
Watching her in this movie makes you forget completely about Streisand, and with good reason. Intelligent dialogue and a phenomenal field of actors like Peter O'Toole, Anthony Hopkins, and Timothy Dalton make this film a classic to be watched.
This film is also indirectly feminist with Hepburn's portrayal and even Jane Merrow as Henry's mistress offers challenges to the table. Truly a film to watch again and again.
