I enjoyed this film, McConaughey really owned the part, i'd like to see him come back considering the amount of story ideas that could continue into a series, but enough is built up within this story that it doesn't feel deprecatingly episodic.

The film takes the courtroom drama type scenario we can see on television for free at almost any time of the day and puts a fun twist on it with competent filmmaking that makes the film feel cinematic and bigger than its story.

The real key here is the characters, and how their situations feel original and interesting. The moral questions surrounding the title character and his relationship to everyone else in the film are genuine and a breath of fresh air.

His dual nature reminded me of classic movie badasses, he really is the James Bond of defense attorneys and thats what elevates the film. I also enjoyed William H Macey and Trace Adkins here. The inclusion of Marissa Tomei was great, a middle aged actress with chops being given a meaty role isn't usual hollywood practice, but it was a good choice on behalf of the production and she s gorgeous here.

Fun film, an engaging and cool mystery, the film is shot and edited well and though it creeps in from time to time the shaky cam and snap zooms where kept to a minimum. I'd love to see more from Brad Furman, this being only his second feature shows promise!
