Review of The Limits of Control (2009) by Lee B — 24 Apr 2011
This is not one of Jarmusch's better movies. Mystery Train, Broken Flowers, Night on Earth then Ghost Dog - in that order, are the great ones. This one loses a bit of what it's trying to say. It strings together meetings with people essential to...well, I never really caught on because the main character never really showed where the journey was taking him, other than maybe back home. I didn't get philosophy he spilled at the end. Nor a real reason he had to do things the way he did. So that didn't work out for me.
However, as with his other movies, there are great scenes and great cinematography. So many moments of "cool" are in this movie, even though it never really brings it all together, you can't help but watch, enthralled a bit.
