Review of The Light Between Oceans (2016) by Sarah C — 11 Sep 2016
Rarely have a seen a movie that equaled the book. The unicorn is when a movie rivals the original book. I can name so few movies that I left thinking they did the original author's work any justice.
The last I had such feeling were when I watched "Atonement". "The Light Between Oceans" was one of the single greatest films I have seen that were based on a novel. The actors were perfection; the cinematography heart wrenching.
For those who claim the movie is too intense or that the director plays on our emotions to illicit response, I would suggest viewing "Blue Valentine". This director is the Picasso of portraying the tragedy, and beauty, of the human experience.
There is no fluff, or raw entertainment, only art. As with any art form, it is fact that art is not for everyone.
