Breathtaking cinematography can't salvage this tortuously slow & devastating period piece. Though no fault of the ever-charming Vikander, bewilderingly shortsighted & selfish Isabel leaves viewers frustratingly aloof from her self-made plight---a plight that carries the film but leaves viewers behind.
